Educational Resources Mayflower 400
Southampton is a strategic partner in the national Mayflower 400 commemoration. Throughout 2020, Southampton City Council (SCC) will lead a major city-wide programme in partnership with cultural, educational and voluntary organisations. As part of that, and with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, SCC will manage a series of heritage projects that aim to support greater understanding of the Mayflower story, and Southampton’s role in that, as well as work with and encourage partners to look at the City’s wider and long history as a place of journeys, migration and sanctuary.
The programme will reconnect young people and communities to their maritime past, build empathy and greater cross-cultural understanding. The programme will run from February 2020 to March 2021 with a focus on cultural activities June – November.
Southampton City Council is now looking for an experienced educational resource designer and writer to create educational materials for schools (primary, secondary and SEN) to accompany the programme and leave a lasting legacy. Resources need to be tested summer term 2020 with phase one resources available for schools for September 2020 and stage two resources for March 2021.
